Hockey Title Point Totals

Do all World Championships matter? Yes. Do some matter more than others? Yes. Is recency the determining factor? Yes: Ranger fans can cling to 1994 all they want, but the iconic status of that Stanley Cup does not change the fact that the titles won in 1995, 2000 and 2003 by the New Jersey Devils mean more.

The 1st Stanley Cup was in 1893, and its winners get 1 point. The 1894 winners get 2, and so on. Moving a team starts the count all over again. Sorry, Ottawa fans, but you can't count the Cups won by the old Senators who left town in 1934 with the new Senators who started in 1992.
