Yanks Don't Hit vs. Rays, Not That It Matters Now

The Yankees began a 3-game home series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. J.A. Happ pitched 7 shutout innings. Of course, he'd thrown 106 pitches, so, naturally, manager Aaron Boone, under orders from general manager Brian Cashman, took him out. So, naturally, Dellin Betances allowed a run in the top of the 8th, to cut the Yankee lead to 3-1.

Fortunately, Austin Romine hit a home run, and that provided the final score: Yankees 4, Rays 1. WP: Happ (13-6). SV: Aroldis Chapman (31). LP: Hunter Wood (0-1).

The Wednesday game wasn't so good. Luis Cessa didn't get out of the 4th inning. Miguel Andujar hit a home run, but that was 1 of only 5 hits the Yankees got, along with doubles by Andujar and Giancarlo Stanton, and singles by Brett Gardner and Aaron Hicks.

Rays 6, Yankees 1. WP: Ryan Yarbrough (11-5). No save. LP: Cessa (1-3).

The Yankees were no better on Thursday. Once again, Masahiro Tanaka had a bad 1st inning. It was only 2 runs, but that was enough. This time, the Yankees only got 7 hits, 2 of them doubles by Stanton, 1 of them driving in a run.

Rays 3, Yankees 1. WP: Blake Snell (14-5). SV: Adam Kolarek (1). LP: Masahiro Tanaka (9-4).

Gotta do better than that -- not that it matters now, because we're not catching the Red Sox.
