Baseball Pennants, 1871-2025

Just 1 year ago. Seems like a lot longer, doesn't it?

This time, I'm counting each franchise as if its moves, if any, don't matter -- which I usually don't do. Ties broken by never-moved teams ahead of moved teams, then by World Series won, then by most recent.

Defunct Teams winning Pennants in what were, even if only briefly, "major leagues":

Previous versions of the Philadelphia Athletics: 1871 National Association, 1883 American Association.

Providence Grays: 1879 and 1884 National League.

Previous version of the New York Metropolitans: 1884 American Association.

St. Louis Maroons: 1884 Union Association.

Detroit Wolverines: 1887 National League.

Louisville Colonels: 1890 American Association.

Boston Red Stockings (not the team that became the Braves or the one that became the Red Sox): 1891 American Association.

Previous version of the Baltimore Orioles: 1894, 1895 and 1896 National League.

Indianapolis Hoosiers: 1914 Federal League.

Chicago Whales: 1915 Federal League.

The last Seattle team to win a Pennant was the Seattle Angels, a farm team of the Anaheim club, in the Pacific Coast League, in 1966. By a weird coincidence, that was also the year of the last minor-league Pennant in Toronto, by the Maple Leafs, for whom the NHL team was renamed in 1927. They had been the Arenas from 1917 to 1920, and then the St. Patricks.
