Winning is good. I'll take a win and no milestone over a milestone and no win anytime. And I got a win and no milestone.
Today, in the opener of a doubleheader against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Aaron Judge put the ball in play 4 times. He got 2 singles, which will help his bid for the Triple Crown. And the Yankees got 3 home runs. But none of them were hit by Judge. With 2 games left, he still has 61 home runs on the season, not 62.
The Yankees' runs came on a home run by Oswaldo Cabrera in the 1st inning, the 1st career home run of Oswald Peraza in the 2nd, a single by Marwin
González in the 5th, and a home run by Kyle Higashioka and a single by Harrison Bader in the 8th.
Jameson Taillon started, and was a little shaky, allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect 7th, Greg Weissert a perfect 8th, and Jonathan Loáisiga a scoreless 9th. Yankees 5, Rangers 4. WP: Chapman (4-4). SV: Loáisiga (4). LP: Brock Burke (7-5).
The doubleheader continues tonight. Gerrit Cole starts against Jesus Tinoco. Cole has 248 strikeouts on the season, to tie the team record set by Ron Guidry in 1978. His 1st strikeout tonight will break that record.
Tomorrow afternoon, a 4:05 PM Eastern Time start, the regular season concludes: Domingo Germán starts against Glenn Otto.
