Hang down your head, Mont...gom'ry.
Hang down your head and cry.
The Yankees began a brief 2-game City Series against the Mets at Citi Field last night. Remember: It's not a Subway Series unless it's a World Series. Nobody ever called regular-season games between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers a "Subway Series."
Things started off so well. They didn't end that way. Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo hit back-to-back home runs in the 1st inning, giving the Bronx Bombers a 2-0 lead in Queens. But, once again, the Yankee hitters didn't give Jordan Montgomery enough run support. This time, however, he didn't give them enough run-stopping support. In the bottom of the 1st, he allowed this sequence: Flyout, home run, double, double, strikeout, home run, flyout. 4-2 Mets.
After the 1st inning, the only bright spot of the game was a scoreless 7th inning by Aroldis Chapman. But when you're a Yankee Fan, you never want to lose, especially to the Mets.
Mets 6, Yankees 3. WP: Taijuan Walker (8-2). SV: Edwin Diaz (22). LP: Montgomery (3-3).
And now, the Yankees have to play a 2nd game at Citi Field, with Domingo Germán starting against Max Scherzer. I'm not looking forward to this.
