Are the Yankees going to hit again? Ever?
Last night, again, it was those pesky Toronto Blue Jays who shut them down, and out. Kevin Gausman started for the Jays. Having usually given the Yankees trouble while pitching for the Baltimore Orioles, he did so again.
At first, it looked like they might avoid such a fate. With 1 out in the bottom of the 1st, Aaron Judge drew a walk. Anthony Rizzo flew out, but Josh Donaldson singled. Then Andrew Benintendi grounded to short to end the inning.
After that, there were no more Yankee baserunners until the 5th. There were singles by Gleyber Torres and the rookie Oswaldo Cabrera, but neither scored. Rizzo singled with 2 out in the 6th, and Judge reached on catcher's interference in the 9th. That's it: Just 6 baserunners.
Jameson Taillon only went 5 innings. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, and no walks. But the Yankee bats simply did not pick him up. The bullpen went 4 innings, allowing just 1 run (Aroldis Chapman, naturally), but what's the use?
Blue Jays 4, Yankees 0. WP: Gausman (9-9). No save. LP: Taillon (11-4).
The series continues this afternoon. But, as I said before, what's the use? Gerrit Cole starts against Mitch White.
