Yanks Split With Mets

So the Yankees played 2 games against the Mets at Yankee Stadium II. The Monday night game was rained out, so a day-night, separate-admissions doubleheader was played on Tuesday.

Masahiro Tanaka started the opener, going 6 2/3rds innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, but no walks and 7 strikeouts. Not good, but acceptable.

The Yankees picked up a run in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Mets struck for 4 runs in the top of the 3rd. The Yankees pulled a run back in the bottom of the 3rd, and then grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the bottom of the 4th. With 1 out, Kendrys Morales singled, and Gio Urshela hit a home run to tie the game 4-4. DJ LeMahieu reached on an error, Aaron Hicks drew a walk, and then Luke Voit used The Force and crushed one. 7-4 Yankees.

The Yankees launched a 2-out rally in the 5th: A double by Morales, a single by Urshela, and a triple by Brett Gardner. 9-4. The Mets got a run back in the 6th, but doubles by Clint Frazier and Urshela in the 7th canceled that out. Gary Sanchez added a home run in the 8th.

Yankees 12, Mets 5. WP: Tanaka (4-5). No save. LP: Zack Wheeler (5-4).

James Paxton started the nightcap, and he had nothing. He allowed 3 runs before the Yankees even came to bat, and did not survive the 3rd inning. Chance Adams pitched through the 7th, and was no better. Gardner hit a home run, but it didn't matter.

Mets 10, Yankees 4. WP: Jason Vargas (3-3). No save. LP: Paxton (3-3).

The Yankees had last night off, a travel day, on their way to Chicago to play the White Sox.
