CC Hit With Onebadinningitis vs. Sox

The Thursday night game between the Yankees and the Red Sox got in under the 3-hour Michael Kay "manageable" threshold. The Friday night game already had 4 innings in the book by the 1-hour mark -- and would be just a minute over 3 hours. This is not how Yanks-Sox games go.

I would gladly have taken long games, if we could have won both of them. Alas, it's only been a split thus far.

Alfonso Soriano hit a long home run in the 1st inning, and it was still 1-0 Yankees in the top of the 6th, with Jon Lester otherwise matching CC Sabathia. CC was cruising.

But in that 6th, it all fell apart. Jonny Gomes led off with a home run. CC struck out Dustin Pedroia, but then the big fat lying cheating bastard, David Ortiz, beat the lefty-slugger by hitting a ground ball to deep short, and Derek Jeter couldn't get the throw over to 1st base in time. Mike Napoli looped a single to center. And then Grady Sizemore, picked up by the Sox after the other 29 teams had given him up for dead, hit one out.

The Yankees picked up another run in the bottom of the 7th, but that was it. There were RISPfails in the 3rd and the 7th. Again, the bats didn't get it done.

Here is the effect of onebadinningitis: Aside from the 6th inning, the Yankee pitchers went 8 innings, allowed no runs, 2 hits, 3 walks, and overall (including the 6th) had 13 strikeouts. But that 6th inning meant 4 runs on 4 hits.

Red Sox 4, Yankees 2. WP: Lester (1-2). SV: Edward Mujica (1-1). LP: Sabathia (1-2, hit by onebadinningitis in both losses).

The series continues today, a 1:05 start. Hiroki Kuroda vs. John Lackey.
