The Yankees and Rays have been officially rained out tonight. Rescheduled for September 22.
So Derek Jeter next gets a chance to get hits 2,999 and 3,000 tomorrow afternoon at 1:05, A.J. Burnett starting against David Price. Fortunately, it will be on YES, not Fox. Joe Buck, your father was a legend, but you're a Yankee-hating annoyance. If Derek doesn't get it tomorrow, Sunday's game will also be on YES, a 1:05 start, CC Sabathia vs. Scott Shields.
It's also been announced that Jeter and Alex-Rodriguez, following Mariano Rivera's announcement yesterday, will not be going to the All-Star Game in Phoenix this coming Tuesday night.
I'd like to believe it's in protest of the vicious anti-Hispanic bigotry shown by the Republican leaders of the State of Arizona -- who obviously learned nothing from having a Super Bowl taken away from them for not recognizing the Martin Luther King holiday, getting it back 3 years later once they did -- but no, it's just to get some rest, especially with all 3 of them having had injuries lately.
The Red Sox are kicking the crap out of the Orioles right now, so, barring a massive comeback by Buck's boys -- or a massive old-style Red Sox choke -- we'll be a full game out of first place -- but still tied in the All-Important Loss Column.
Could be a big day for me tomorrow: Yanks vs. Rays and Jeter's 3,000th hit in the afternoon, and the Red Bulls vs. DC United "derby" in the evening. Let's go Yankees ! (Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap.) Let's go Metro! (Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap.)
