Re: Four Seasons: I was born ...Interesting post!

Re: Four Seasons: I was born in Point Pleasant and, as a very young lad, lived in Point Pleasant Beach. The Four Seasons were renting a house/bungalow several blocks from where I lives in 1962. I had a season beach badge for Jenkinson's and one day, among many, I went to the beach by myself and when I placed my beach towel down, four guys plopped down next to me, pulled out acoustic instruments and started playing. Several youg girls nearby yelled at them "Would you guys shut up! We can't hear our music!' They had the little mono transistor radios that were then the rage. Although a mere tot, I stood up and yelled out "They sound as good as those songs on your radio to me!" Well, don't you know it, the four guys were Frankie Vallie and The Four Seasons, house band at Martel's that summer. By the end of that summer, the sign board in front of Martel's read: "The Four Seasons with their top hit "Sherry!" And it was a top hit at the time, their first big hit.

I was always a lifelong Yankee fan. Mickey Mantle was our idol as kids.

Years latter, as an adult, I happened to eat and hang out at a place in East Rutherford, NJ called "The Bottom of The Barrell" after getting off the commuter train from NYC and while i lived in Rutherford. Coincidently, the owner of that restaurant was a good friend of Billy Martin, more than one time Yankees Manager. Billy and Art Fowler, his pitching coach, hung out at the same place.

One time I was drinking a beer while eating a steak sandwich at the bar and they had pulled out the TV for a Yankees game. I looked over and Billy Martin was there eating right next to me. He was paying less attention to the Yankee Game than I was! (This was when he was suspended for kicking dirt into to umps face.) Also a lot of people from the Oakland A's would come there when in town as he had a lot of friends there from when he managed them and made the cover of Time Magazine.

I'm still a Yankee fan and let's hope they put it together again, this year and go all the way to the World Series!

Go Yankees! Go Point Pleasant Beach!

Great story! Thanks for posting it!Kevin from Jerseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04409981518338573167noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2889333447515035362.post-71247408477059882192011-09-03T23:22:10.279-04:002011-09-03T23:22:10.279-04:00Just as an FYI, according to Kay/O'Neill/Singl...Just as an FYI, according to Kay/O'Neill/Singlteon Rivera (as well as Soriano) wasn't used today as they pitched in the last two games already...capt paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00398375492813437635noreply@blogger.com
