However, George was reportedly upset by Winfield's decision to go into the Hall as a Padre that those plans were scrapped (for the record, he spent most of his MLB career in the Bronx). Even without the Monument Park honors, the Yankees still held Dave Winfield Day in August of 2001--I was there, and while the game itself drew a good crowd, the ceremonies were an hour before the first pitch and sparsely attended (I made sure to be there in plenty of time for it...) Donnie, though got bigger cheers that day when he appeared presenting a car to Winfield.
